Step outside the back door and you know that it’s harvest time. First the unmistakable dusty smell of harvest, then the steady noise of the combine in a distant field and the roar of the tractors driving into the yard …
… followed by the bang of the trailer tailgate as they empty their load of wheat.
It is a slightly fraught time of year, when everything seems to be done at a run, tempers run short and the weather forecasts consulted and sworn about more than usual.
Thankfully, I’m no longer required to drive tractors and corn cart but have slipped into the role of chief gofer, provider of refreshments and soothing influence.
I am more suited to some of these roles than others.
I like your role better Anne and gorgeous bread and what type of yummy snack includes raisins? I’ll be right over! lol Thanks for sharing your Harvest as know it is a really hard job! (understatement)
I like my role better too! I hated corn cart.
The refreshments look delicious.
I could do with a soothing influence around here at the moment. Who soothes the soothers, that’s what I want to know.
Eek, I just posted that with the wrong sign in, oops!
Sadly, soothing is not one of my strengths, but I am the calmest around here at the moment, which is almost as good.
Provider of refreshments and soothing influence…I like that role! Your refreshments and nourishment look wholesome and delicious Anne. These busy times on the farming calendar can test us out cant they? Of course it is all worth it in the end. Beautiful, honest photos from the farm. Thanks Anne x
Very testing sometimes Jane but definitely worth it 🙂
Beautiful bread and treats. I like your role, it suits you.
I love the look of that bread, just perfect and the other treats look good too!
Are you good at the soothing influence? Obviously you have the refreshments down pat!
You suspect I may not be good at the soothing influence? How well you know me!
Hope all goes well. How quickly the years roll around.
I bet those baked good went down a treat. I am salivating on my keyboard, I am that hungry.
I remember the harvest time on our farm in Germany. As a child my job was to bring refreshment and food to the fields. Later I drove the tractor in the fields. I liked that much better. I remember the enormous dust when harvesting the wheat.
I hope the weather and the machinery holds together for you to successfully gather the harvest Anne. Love the photo of the corn coming out of the trailer. Keep Calm and Carry On eating Cake!
Fine looking refreshments Anne! 😀 looks like your job suits you perfectly ..
Beautiful harvest pictures. I always find the machinery of harvest impressive. Mostly because it’s huge! Your bread and sweets look marvelous. Enjoy your new role. Everyone can use a little soothing once in a while.
I hope that it is a good harvest and that you have had some good weather for it. Enjoy your role as food provider! xx
